Dr. Bareera Maryam
Dr. Bareera Maryam is a dedicated environmental engineer whose research focuses on the pressing issue of microplastic pollution in natural water systems. With a holistic approach to applied environmental engineering, Dr. Maryam’s work is driven by the fundamental goal of ensuring the availability of safe water to support healthy ecosystems. During her current research fellowship Programme at ECO-SPHERE, she will investigate the detection of microplastics in personal care products and their ability to adsorb organic micropollutants from water at Yıldız Technical university. Building on her extensive experience in wastewater treatment using nano-filtration, adsorption, and advanced oxidation processes, Dr. Maryam has published numerous impactful articles in renowned journals. Her work has greatly expanded the understanding of the occurrence and adverse impacts of active pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater, highlighting their capacity to disrupt entire ecosystems. Her impressive academic and professional achievements have earned her multiple national and international fellowships, including awards from Erasmus, TÜBİTAK, and Dora Plus. Through her work, Dr. Maryam continues to contribute significantly to the knowledge of the complex relationships between water, ecosystems, and human health.
