YTU ranks 5th in the category of “Universities with High Level Research Performance” in the Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) Research Universities Performance Ranking. YTU Central Laboratory works to produce scientific knowledge and develop opportunities to transform it into technology. It cooperates with universities abroad and creates partnerships with research institutions on R&D issues and prepares a working environment that will gather project studies carried out with the support of the European Union, TUBİTAK, TUBA, SPO and Yildiz Technical University Scientific Research Projects.
For nearly two decades, Yildiz Technical University (YTU) has been a driving force in shaping Turkiye’s national research and development (R&D) landscape through its innovative YTU Yildiz Technopark initiative. This dynamic Technopark has evolved into a thriving hub of innovation, hosting over 500 leading companies at the forefront of technological advancements. With a collective force of more than 8,000 R&D personnel actively engaged in groundbreaking projects, YTU Yildiz Technopark stands as a pivotal center for research and innovation. The impact of this Technopark is further emphasized by the successful completion of over 4,000 projects, showing its commitment to fostering technological progress and contributing to economic growth. YTU Yildiz Technopark proudly holds the distinction of being the largest and most awarded technology development zone in Turkiye. In addition, by increasing the project execution potential of YTU, it is creating a separate information and support unit on issues such as patents, license agreements and technology transfer.
YTU is one of the high performing universities in Turkiye with regards to EU funded projects. Within the Horizon Europe 2021-2027 program by October 2023, YTU ranked 7th in all universities in Turkiye regarding the total funding acquired. YTU has participated in 54 international research projects since 2009. Among them, 28 are FP7, Erasmus, Prima, Horizon Europe, and ERA-NET. For the last 12 years, YTU has prioritized R&D activities in its strategic plans and has been performing as an R&D university with its publications, projects and entrepreneurship activities.
